Setting up the database

EventSentry uses a set of tables where event log, system health, log file and tracking information is stored.

MS SQL Server / MySQL

If you are using MS SQL Server or MySQL, then you can have the database for EventSentry created automatically during the installation, no further action will be required. Just make sure that you select "Setup MS SQL Server" or "Setup MySQL Server" when installing EventSentry. You can still create additional database with the Database Setup Wizard.

MS Access

When using MS Access simply use the installed MS Access database located in the installation directory of EventSentry. Again, make sure that you select "Install Access Database" during the installation. Remember to run the Database Setup Wizard if you are using MS Access and upgrading to a new version of EventSentry.

Oracle

If you are using a different database or were not able to automatically setup the database with the installer, then you can use the database setup wizard located in the Start Menu. The database setup wizard is a GUI application that currently supports MS SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle and MS Access and will create the tables, indexes and permissions that are required for all database-related features to work. Please see Database Setup Wizard for more information.

Security Note: Both username and password are currently written in plain text to the registry. By default the EventSentry registry key is readable only to authenticated users.
